SPain seventeenth century

  • phillip II now king of spain wants to enlarge his power
    • he is a devout catholic
    • he has a plan to defeat the turks in e. medditerranean

    • gives Phillip much pretige for being a Catholic warrior
  • when phillip came to throne, spain was incontrol of the netherlands
